For Song Of The Day [SOTD] I chose Frank Ocean’s “Read The Stars”. It’s one of my all time favorite songs by him, and I probably listen to it almost everyday as a source of inspiration and motivation. Read The Stars is about Frank being underestimated and judged by his teachers. But he’s basically telling them “what do you know? You can’t read the future.” I’m sure some of us have been in a similar situation, whether it be teachers, parents, friends, family….. whoever. Growing up, I felt like MANY people underestimated me and felt that I wasn’t capable of achieving everything that I have. Even to this day, people who are suppose to be supportive and important to us continue to underestimate our future and try to talk us out of our goals. Who are they to tell YOU what lies ahead of your future? They can’t predict that. Frank said “Just tell me how you’re much better than me now. You tore me down until there was nothing left. Look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me… I’m still standing.” That’s right! Where’s there diploma for being able to read the stars? Give it a listen & download

I don’t know much about this person/group (Made In Heights) but it’s kind of like Folk/Pop/Rap fusion. I Love it. Take a listen and let me know what you think!!!

OMARI SAKIR is part of XO, which some might know of from Abel Tesfaye’s latest work or you might associate it with Abel’s project ‘The Weeknd’. I find it sad that Abel Tesfaye is getting alot of hype (although deserved), but there is so much more talent to be explored under XO. Although, it’s only the beginning and I have a feeling the whole group will get their chance to shine at one point. I find this song to be very inspirational, he starts out with “It’s time to get mad!” It makes one want to change and take control of your life. So many good messages in Omari’s work. Listen and tell me what you get out of it.

I just came across this song, and it brought back so many memories. This used to be my favorite song! I was so in love with Bow Wow. Those were the days. I think the reason I’ve always liked this song so much is the emotion behind it. When I listen to music, the most important thing to me is realness. Even if there isn’t a real story behind this song, they did a good job of projecting it through the song. I love it.

kaleidoscopic, creative, inspiring. What Makes You A Doll?
I believe what makes me a doll, is that I am not afraid to be different. I am a box of differences packed into one! My hometown is pretty drab and full of similarities. However, I stand out not only in my race & culture, but my dress, persona, and how I carry myself. I am ME and I love it!
