       It’s that dreadful time of year again, isn’t it Dolls? You know what I’m talking about! Yup, its the holidays. Apart from dusting off your Bing Crosby vinyls, pulling out your favorite holiday dress, and the smell pumpkin EVERYTHING polishing the aroma in your kitchen-it is absolutely dreadful as well isn’t it? It seems as if every time you hit the REFRESH button on Facebook, Someone and Whats-her-face are “IN A RELATIONSHIP”. You get your invites to the holiday parties you’ve been looking forward to all year; some are even having Christmas caroling, who doesn’t love Christmas caroling?!  But then comes the inevitable question: “So, who are YOU bringing?”

          Naturally, we’re relational creatures. We crave it, but to what point is “craving” a relationship truly healthy for us? Before I really begin, please don’t mistake my points here for a bitter, tainted heart. I believe in beautiful, sacred, monogamous L O V E! But as I speak with friends, watch Facebook statuses changed, and scan my T.V. channels and come across “A Boyfriend for Christmas” titles; I cannot help but wonder if our cravings for intimacy during the holidays are merely disillusioned insecurities rising up because of one too many bad Lifetime movies. Ladies, PLEASE, reconsider what you are REALLY looking for. Are you really looking for Mr. Right Now? Will having that New Years kiss at midnight truly be the answer to your holiday blues?

           Being in a heavily committed relationship for 8 (Yes, 8!!) years of my life, then a few flings here and there. After the dust settled I quickly began to realize I was still missing a huge hole in my heart. I deserved to be loved right? I was attractive…..right? It’s them, not me…Or is it me and not them?Who cares! Lets have a ladies night and do some shots! (Deep down, we’re really sending some crazy messages here, Do we truly want love? Or are we being blinded by the “Power of Now?” ) Then you get a new dream, right? You get some hobbies and develop your skills & start “finding yourself”? While I believe everything under the open skies, including our own dreams and desires are and can be wonderful, beautiful blessings from God; I think they aim to deceive us more than actually enrich our lives like they were intended to…..including relationships. So before you start getting down on ridin solo to that party, stop to ask yourself, why you’re really unsatisfied. Through the grace of God, He’s opened my eyes to see what I had wanted so badly ; I was actually chasing the wind, never to actually catch all the things I thought would satisfy me. (especially that kiss under the mistletoe)  I let Christ into my heart when I realized I was chasing the wind my entire life, and I deeply needed to find some solid ground to stand on. Jesus said, “If a man wants to find his life(or the meaning of it), he must drop everything and follow ME. ” To find the meaning of life, suffering, wandering and LOVE. We have to lose ourselves, to find the Truth & the Truth (Jesus) will set us free.

• Make a list! – Whenever I travel, this is a MUST. Even if I’m just spending the weekend somewhere, I have to make sure to write down what I need and what is important for me to take.
• Necessities – Sometimes I take road trips, so bringing along regular-sized versions of my shampoo, lotion and liquid things isn’t a hassle, but to avoid that weight and to plan for future travel adventures requiring me to fly, I try to utilize the travel section of my local drug store, and stock up on little trinkets for super cheap! You can find airport-friendly travel-sized bottles to fill with your every day needs. I usually pack them in my suitcase. I don’t like worrying if I’ve got room to fit into that zip-loc bag. Plus, you can pack as much as you want!
• Clothing – I am queen of “just in case” situations. I will pack just in case of ANY emergency. What I’ve concluded that works for myself is: Basics. Basic, key pieces of your wardrobe that is comfortable and convenient. Leggings, jeans, simple t-shirts, cardigans. I usually pack one or two things that aren’t of that category like my favorite blazers or a few dresses, but nothing that will take up tons of space. Here’s a tip for creating more space: for your jeans, and shirts, roll them! It creates more space in your bag AND it reduces wrinkles. For bulky things like sweaters and jackets, fold them like usual in a square. It’s nearly impossible to roll a jacket or a coat.
• Accessories – If you’re worried about your travel wardrobe being a bit drab, bring lots of things to accessorize! If you’re armed with basics, your accessories will give any outfit and instant uplift. I don’t bring a lot of bags, I usually stick to one purse – a staple that goes with everything and a clutch/wallet that is trendy and applicable to any outfit. With jewelry, sometimes I keep it simple so I don’t risk losing any favorites. Lots of costume/dress up type items that are easy to pack and don’t have much emotional attachment to me.
• Hair/other – If you’re staying at a hotel, most places in the U.S. have hair dryers and irons equipped in the room, so no need for bringing your own. Bring products you need to do your easiest hair style. It’s less hassle and saves you time in the long run.
• Make-up – I usually tend to keep things light. I plan for simple looks, so simple make-up follows as well. It’s a lot easier to pack an eyeshadow quad or palette, so you don’t have tons of individuals rolling around. Plan your make-up around your environment. If you’re going to be in the heat, you don’t want to bring your most expensive products for it to just melt off in an hour. Keep an eye on things like that.

Whenever I travel, I plan my days out by what the weather is like. I plan everything down to the outfit, shoes and jewelry. It makes things a lot easier and saves time, so I can be ready to explore a new place! In all reality, don’t bring tons of stuff if you are able to purchase things wherever you’re staying. It’s a lot less hassle on yourself and plus, you get to wear new, fun things!

These are just a few tips/tricks I’ve learned from trial and error. My personal experiences with forgetting things and overpacking. I hope I’ve helped you dolls in some way! I know I could have used some of this information when I was a packing virgin.
