Things I love About You Playing Cards by Jocelyne

Pick up a deck of cards from your local dollar store and write something you Love about them on each of the playing cards. Not only is it cheap but it shows how much thought you put into their gift. To spice it up, wrap the box with colored construction paper and add a title; with a few drawings or pictures if your feeling artsy.

Pick up a poster and a bunch of candy bars at your local store. Then, think of ways to incorporate them into a paragraph that describes your love towards that person. There is lots of great ideas on the internet if you are having trouble. Think of the first time you met or the first date. This is way better than just handing over a box of chocolates.

Tips For Packing0

Posted In Creative,D.I.Y.,New // Written by Kyeshia

It’s finally Spring and most of us are getting ready to go on weekend getaways and vacations, whether it be this season or this Summer. I always find myself trying new packing techniques and different approaches to use up my luggage space efficiently. I am in no way a great packer/planner. I usually overpack, to be frank, but these are my tips and tricks to get everything I “need” to FIT.

DIY: Vision Board1

VisionBoardTut DIY: Vision Board

In December of 2010 I was reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. In the book she tells a story about manifesting your dreams through vision boards.

A vision board is a poster board on which you paste or collage images that you’ve torn out from various magazines. The idea is when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.

I am a very visual person and I believe in have positive things around you. I created a vision board so that everyday I could look at it and be reminded of my dreams and desires.

The above image tells you everything you need to know to create one. It is also very fun to create. I’ve convinced a few of my friends to create one too.

Create one, take a picture and upload it (twitpic, tinypic, etc). Leave a comment with the link. I would love to see what you dolls create.

boa Shredded T Shirt Tutorial

Hello Dolls!

I have seen this technique on a few blogs and a few celebrities too and I must admit that I was intrigued. I figured there wouldn’t be any way that I could purchase a shirt with a ripped/shredded look, so I began investigating! This is my 2nd time doing this, so I’m still sort of a newbie, but I can share with you what I’ve learned so far.

As you can see in the photo above, it’s sort of a D.I.Y. look. I know there’s places you can “buy” these types of things, but it makes it fun to be able to create it yourself and to your liking. But if you’d like to go the easy route, here’s a bunch found on Etsy.

Start off with a shirt of your liking. I used an old camisole that I wasn’t wearing anymore. I really recommend using an old shirt especially if this is your first time trying this. That way, you wont feel guilty if you mess up a bit.

Cut a small hole into the corner of the shirt. I cut this before I decided to seam rip the entire hem off. It’s a lot easier with a raw edge. You’ll be able to get things done faster. With the hem still attached, the fabric tends to be a lot stiffer and really hard to manage.

Holes in your shirt are not bad at all. This isn’t supposed to be a “pretty” shirt. It’s kind of rough and rugged and holes make it look more authentic.

Here’s the fun part! Once you get the ball rolling, you’ll see how fun and easy it is. Now, this project is very time consuming. It takes a while to get all the threads separated if you want the look of an entire shirt shredded. If you only want the front panel, it splits the time in half. I recommend you take breaks once in a while. It really does a number on your finger strength. Don’t work for long periods of time on this!

If you need to use the seam ripper, be careful. I’ve stabbed myself a few times and it’s not the best feeling in the world. Be careful and enjoy making your own snazzy shirt!

This is the first shredded shirt I’ve ever completed. I did the entire thing and it basically stretched out to twice it’s size! I love that shirt so much and I love it even more knowing that I made it myself!

I hope you dolls like this tutorial! Comment or leave questions that you have. Also, if you do this tutorial yourself, send me your finished looks!

DIY: Framed Fabric0

Posted In Creative,D.I.Y.,New // Written by Sentrell

Its been a little minute since Ive posted. School is back in session and I recently moved into a new apartment. I love moving because new space equals new inspiration. I chose my favorite colors,  lime green, pink, black and white, for my room. I also chose to use different patterns. This brings me to the DIY project I did last Saturday. It costs me $20 and took at maximum of 30 minutes. I was inspired by my favorite interior design blog Made By Girl.

Start with Basic Wood Black Frames. They were $6 a piece at Target.

To start, take off the back of the frame and remove the insert from the frame. Set aside. DO NOT DISCARD because it will be used as a guide for the fabric.

Turn the fabric over and place the insert from the frame in the center of the fabric. Using a permenant marker, trace (lightly making sure that the ink doesn’t bleed through the fabric) around the insert. Make sure that its not an exact trace. Make it slightly larger than the insert like the picture below.

Cut out the fabric with the scissors or the box cutter. Lastly insert the fabric into the frame. I put the insert behind the fabric (optional). Put the back of the frame into its proper place and secure the clamps.

Flip the frame over and you are done! This what the final product should look like.

Using a nail and hammer. Put the frame on the wall. Ofcourse this is optional. Repeat all of the step for the additional frame. I did two frames.

I put each frame over my night stands. I then placed this S I found at Marshalls for $8 in the middle. Excuse my Tigger lol.

I hope you all enjoyed this DIY project. I had fun doing it! Be on the look out for additional DIY projects soon.

P.S. Sorry about the lighting in the photos. The pop up flash on my D60 no longer works. icon sad DIY: Framed Fabric
